Updates on Recent Issues in the District, December 30, 2008

I would like to take this opportunity to update you on two recent issues that have been a cause for concern at some of our schools. I feel it is important to provide you with information that is accurate so as to curtail any rumors regarding these recent incidents. New High School Design Proposals Investigated

December 29, 2008: The Board of Education has voted to move forward for further investigation a proposal for a new high school facility that will incorporate the 1998 addition into its overall design. The Board hopes to significantly reduce the original $112 million estimate for a new school with this revised design plan. New designs and cost estimates will be presented to the Board in January 2009.

Proposed 2009-2010 School Calendar

Dear Parents and Students:
It is a pleasure for me to welcome you to the 2008-09 school year. Before long, school hallways will resound with conversation and classrooms will buzz with anticipation of new learning. Our schools will open for students on Thursday, August 28. Staff members will begin their schedule on August 25. (more)

Year in Review

Our success over the last few years is a direct result of the collaboration among all stakeholders including the Board of Education, community leaders, parents, students, teachers, staff and administrators. The work of these individuals and groups has assisted the school district in creating a culture that is focused on learning. (more)

The State of the Schools

Dr. Forcella presented the first State of the Schools report to the community on January 10, 2008. 150 people joined the Superintendent in the GHS auditorium as he summarized the accomplishments, goals, and state of our public schools.

Creating a Culture of Collaboration

Beginning with the 2007-08 school year, teachers in all of our schools are members of collaborative teams (Professional Learning Communities) that will create specific goals geared toward improved student learning. (more)
